We have had reports from members who are unable to open PDF Docs. If you have problems, try the following:

1. Using the "file/close" menu or the upper right corner "X" in each open window, close other programs or windows on your computer so only the web page with the PDF link is running. Memory isn't usually an issue with newer computers, but sometimes commands are running that can cause problems.

2. Make sure you have Acrobat Reader installed. Dr Marshall says: If you don't have the free Adobe Acrobat reader installed (for .PDF files) you can download it from Adobe at URL
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

3. If Acrobat Reader is installed, you may need an upgrade. PC users can open their Reader program from the start menu/All Programs/Acrobat Reader. After Reader opens, choose Reader's menu "Help/check for updates now..."

4. If you have the latest Acrobat Reader and you still can't open the .PDF in a browser window by clicking the underlined text link, then it could be a browser+add on software problem. (Web browsers open PDFs with "add on" software. Add ons are not always a perfect setup.)  In that case, download the file to your computer first, then open it with a double click. That will just launch Acrobat stand-alone Reader, without a web browser component. Here's how to do it:

Using your Web browser, find the underlined link to the PDF file you want to open.

PC users RIGHT-click and a little menu pops up. Download prompt is different depending on your web browser, but choose "save file as" (Navigator) or "save target as" (Microsoft Internet Explorer) and save the file to your computer in a folder you won't forget, or to your desktop. Mac users command-click and save to desktop.

Try right-clicking and "save to disk" and then viewing it from your local disk.

When the file has finished downloading, close your Web browser. You can then easily open the PDF with a double click.

5. If that doesn't work, email the URL to a friend or family member and ask them to open and print the document for you. (AOL and some other email programs have significant spam blockers, so you can communicate with a friend or family member easier than we can.)

6. If you have tried all of the above options and you still can not get the information, then post Staff for help as a last resort. (Most find step 4 handles the problem if they have newer computers and latest versions of Acrobat installed.)

with thanks for assistance to JRFoutin.
