I've been in Phase 2 now for just over a month. Getting to grips with the cadences of 2 antibiotics with different cycle lengths is a challenge but I'm seeing a pattern now - not everything is new after all.

My IPR symptoms have been much the same as in Phase 1 - just the ebb and flow has changed. Lots of muscle aches and stiffness, and tinnitus. Occasional tooth pain and itchy/bumpy skin.

When I look at the (very) long list of symptoms I had soon after having to stop working, I wonder when some of the scarier ones will be visited again - especially the one where it feels like someone has grabbed my gut in both hands and is wringing it out like a wet towel! (And not being able to string a simple sentence together. And not being able to make the simplest decision. . .)

But I'm not going to worry. I survived them then - and that was when the symptoms had no meaning beyond the pain and frustration. Now that those symptoms pressage healing, I can look at them in a different light. Thank you Dr Marshall!

With best wishes to all,

Alison

I have just realised that I have not posted here for a very long time - many apologies!

I have been in phase 2 for six months now. All was going well until the beginning of the month when I was woken by a phone call from my GP (not my MP Doc) telling me that a routine blood test had revealed a raised creatinine level. She was very worried as, to her traditional way of thinking, it looked like I was heading for renal failure! That my kidneys should be affected by my CFS/ME was a bit of a surprise to me too, though all the reading I have done on the site should have prepared me :?.

My GP (and her colleagues) wanted me to stop the olmesartan (Benicar) straight away, but I had remembered enough to know that that was exactly the wrong thing to do. I even went on to 4-hrly for a few days, despite their shaking heads and shrugged shoulders.

In less than 3 weeks my creatinine was back to normal levels :). I have warned my GP that this is almost certain to happen again, and we have agreed to monitor creatinine levels more closely in future. Hopefully, the next rise won't worry her quite so much. I will certainly be more confident in dealing with it, and any similar blips in test results - it's all IPR after all.

Although I can't report any dramatic improvements yet (and wouldn't expect to), there have been some encouraging changes:
  • only one fingernail (rather than 6) is still splitting regularly;
  • I can now use ordinary deodorant/antiperspirant - no rash;
  • when I do too much in a day, my body is not taking as long to recover as before, and I do not feel as ill in the meantime.
Best wishes,
Alison
