I began Benicar on Dec 25th. Besides some mild fatigue and arthralgia symptoms especially in my right knee which had had surgery in 1973, I felt better with a noticable reduction in palpitations. Also, chronic skin condition at nape of neck was way better, no itching and almost no scaling. 3 days after starting Benicar (40 mg q6h), developed flu and upper respiratory symptoms with marked muscle aches, fever, headache, fatigue and sinus congestion and rhinorrhea. This lasted 6 days with a little nasal congestion remaining. As flu symptoms resolved, developed left shoulder and back pain and weakness lasting several hours staring at 3:00 pm. Tinnitus remains fairly constant.
Took 12.5 mg minocycline last night (Jan 7). Awoke in the night with mild palpitations, first time since starting Benicar. Then, the next morning had episode of extreme fatigue and weakness which lasted several hours. Also increased joint pain and low back pain. Also slight increase in itchiness in scalp.
The reaction I had was obviously a Herx, proving IMO that low dose mino with a Benicar blockade effectively impacts on the intracellular bacteria. Will keep posting updates as I progress.
____________________ 59 year old male, started MP Dec 2004. Remaining symptoms are mild periodic tinnitus & dry skin. On Benicar 40 mg tid and azithromycin 125 mg q10d. Completed all phases including using Bactrim.
Those that have cardiac involvement during herxes are advised that they can use Benicar q4h. Some people find they need to stay on Benicar at this dose, while others can increase it for their herx sxs.
