Uneventful day other than lots of rest and sleep because I am going out tomorrow to 82yr old friends house for dinner to celebrate Mother's Day since neither of us have family close by.
Did not take my mino tonight or 2nd antib, holding off until tomorrow night if light exposure is okay. Will continue on Benicar today and tomorrow. Only off 1 day on doses.

SLEPT IN BITS AND PIECES ALL NIGHT. GUESS I RESTED AND SLEPT TOO MUCH ANTICIPATING GOING TO GRANNY'S TODAY FOR MOTHER'S DAY. FORCED MYSELF TO STAY IN BED AND KEEP EYES CLOSED TO AT LEAST REST.
LEFT AT 3PM IN SUNLIT HOURS (FULLY COVERED). CLOSED BLINDS AT GRANNY'S AND STAYED THERE UNTIL DARK. HOME BY 9PM.

NO SWELLING FROM SUN EXPOSURE (THAT IS 2 TIMES THIS MONTH), HOWEVER, I ALWAYS GO OUT COVERED AND NOIRS AND AM IN THE DIRECT SUN ONLY LONG ENOUGH TO GO TO TOWN AND BACK.
DOING QUITE WELL TODAY, CAT NAPPED BETWEEN PHONE CALLS.
HAD A SORT OF STRANGE 'HEADACHE(?)' TODAY. LIKE IT WAS OFF IN THE DISTANT (IN THE TOP OF MY HEAD). WAS LIGHT MOST OF DAY, BUT GAVE ME THE IMPRESSION IN THE AFTERNOON THAT IT WAS GOING TO INTENSIFY, SO I TOOK A PAIN PILL. MORE ANNOYING THAN ANYTHING.
WILL PICK UP 2ND ANTIB TOMORROW MORNING. ALL TOLLERABLE

EVERYTHING WAS TOLLERABLE EXCEPT THE STRESS FROM FINDING OUT MY DAD IS HAVING PROBLEMS AGAIN AND WHEN I CALLED MY BROTHER (CAREGIVER), HE BECAME ANGRY WITH ME FOR EVEN ASKING. I THINK HE NEEDS A BREAK. CALLED MY DAUGHTER AND HAD HER PRAY WITH ME FOR PEACE.
HAVE DECIDED I WILL VISIT MY DAD IN THE NEAR FUTURE FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND TAKE SOME OF THE LOAD OFF MY BROTHER (THAT WILL TAKE A LOAD OFF ME). WILL BE POSTING FROM DAD'S HOME, SO I WILL TRY AND GET HIM INTERESTED IN READING MY POSTS AND LEARNING HOW TO OPERATE A COMPUTER. MY OTHER BROTHER IS GOING TO BUY HIM A COMPUTER. THIS WILL BE ENJOYABLE.
MY DAD AND I GET ALONG WELL (SINCE I AM NO LONGER A TEENAGER). I WILL DECIDE HOW TO CONTINUE MP AS I AM SURE THE LIGHT EXPOSURE WILL BE A LOT MORE THAN I HAVE HERE. IT IS COMPLETELY DARK HERE. I WILL MAKE MY BEDROOM DARK AT DAD'S SO THAT I WILL HAVE A HAVEN TO RETREAT TO.
I HATE STRESS, I HAVE CRIED FOR 2 DAYS, BUT FEEL I HAVE COME UP WITH A GOOD SOLUTION TO SOLVE IT INCLUDING A LETTER OF PRAISE TO MY BROTHER FOR HIS PREVIOUS CARE OF DAD.
HAD A BAD HEADACHE ALL DAY (NOT MIGRAINE) BUT DUE TO ALL THE STRESS SO I DID TAKE ONE PAIN PILL BUT ALL IS WELL TONIGHT.

this is 3rd post down : Redi Shade.
Delray says "We found a great product at Lowes (or Home Depot) to put under shades or curtains. It is inexpensive (about $5.00), easy to install and does the trick. It comes in 2 sizes 36" wide or 48" wide, both are 72" long. It can be cut down to a smaller width easily. We taped it to the bedroom window top and bottom and it blocks quite a bit of light. Since I rarely go thru the rest of my house we just keep the rest at a minimum amount of light."
Paulalbert says: I bought some Redi Shade vinyl room darkening blinds. They certainly do the trick. Six dollars a window! and so easy to put up.

 Barb,
I bought one of the RediShades at Walmart for $3.88. The instructions said that it is possible to use them for wider windows strictly by overlapping them. I have not put it up yet, but since you mentioned it I will do it tonite and see how dark it makes it. My house is so dark that when my friend opens the door to bring the mail, it is like someone turned on the brightest spotlight in the world.
Also. Spacee uses black trash bags and wide scotch tape, I thought I would experiment with that before I leave.
I am going to try to stay here for a little while longer but in the meantime call my dad everynight at 9pm (therefore I will be posting earlier) and ask how his day went, how he feels, let him talk and tell him I love him and goodnight. He is in such depression, I think this will help.
I know how much it helps when other MPers PM me. It feels great just to 'talk'.
Thank you Barb for thinking of me when I know you are so ill yourself.

I REMEMBER WHEN I FIRST DECIDED/STARTED MP, HOW SCARED I WAS TO START. AFRAID THAT I COULD NOT TOLLERATE THE ANTIBIOTICS NEEDED. I WAS SO ALLERGIC/INTOLLERANT TO ALMOST ALL MEDS. WORRIED ABOUT HOW LOW THE BENICAR WOULD TAKE MY BP. SCARED IT WOULD 'BOTTOM' OUT. BUT NO MATTER HOW LOW I SEE IT NOW, IT DOES NOT ALARM ME AT ALL.
I FEEL SO SAFE DOING MP. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS OF CONCERN EVEN WITH JUST ONE KIDNEY. PHASE ONE WAS THE HARDEST FOR ME. LEARNING TO STAY INSIDE OUT OF THE SUN, FINDING THINGS TO DO INSIDE, LEARNING TO REST, SLEEP ETC. WHEN I WAS FATIGUED. I REALLY BELIEVE WE NEED THIS REST. YES, I AM ANXIOUS WHEN I WILL REACH THE POINT TREVOR IS AT BUT I WILL MAKE IT.
WHEN I DECIDED I WAS GOING TO DO MP, I JUMPED IN WITH BOTH FEET, PRINTED OUT PHASE 1, READ AND REREAD IT AND BELIEVED TOTALLY IN DR. MARSHALL THAT HE WAS WISE AND KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING AND SAYING. I HAVE FOLLOWED HIS INSTRUCTIONS (ALMOST) TO A TEE. ALL HAS BEEN WELL AND I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR NO MIGRAINES AND NECK ACHES, LET ALONE ALL THE OTHER NUMEROUS GIFTS MP HAS GIVEN ME.
I AM ON MY 2ND ANTIB AND I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH TAKING AN ANTIBIOTIC OR WITH THE BENICAR. THE HERX HAS BEEN OKAY, BETTER THAN THE PAIN BEFORE MP. I MUST ADMIT, I PRAYED BEFORE I STARTED MP AND I HAVE BEEN TRULY BLESSED.
i HAVE HAD NO HERX TODAY EXCEPT FOR BEING SLEEPY NOT FATIGUED, JUST LAZY. DOZED A LOT IN THE RECLINER.

WAS UP ALL NIGHT. MY FRIEND BELIEVED HE WAS HAVING ANOTHER STROKE AND REFUSED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL. GOT HIS BP DOWN. HE WAS HERE UNTIL 2 AM AT WHICH TIME I TRIED TO GO TO BED BUT WAS TOO WOUND UP. WENT TO BED AT 9 AM AND SLEPT UNTIL 230PM. I HAVE NOT FIGURED OUT WHETHER NOT SLEEPING AT NIGHT AND GETTING A FEW THINGS DONE AND SLEEPING IN THE DAYTIME IS CALLED INSOMNIA OR NOT. I USED TO WORK GRAVEYARD, SO IT DOES NOT COME HARD FOR ME TO SLEEP DURING THE DAY. DON'T FEEL I AM LOSING ANY SLEEP. I AM USUALLY UP UNTIL 1 OR 2 AM ANYWAY.
I WAS READING ON THE MP AND READ SOMEONE'S SITE WHERE THEY TALKED OF A GRANULOMA THAT WAS ROCK HARD. WELL, ONE OF THE HERX TODAY WAS THE SLIGHT PAIN ON THE INSIDE OF EACH BIG TOE WHERE THEY CONNECT TO THE FOOT. I HAD ALWAYS BELIEVED SINCE THESE PLACES CAME, THAT THEY WERE CALCIUM DEPOSITS. ALL I KNOW, IS THEY HURT AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN A WHILE THAT THEY HAVE HURT. ACTUALLY THE LEFT FOOT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IT HAS HURT. IT'S BEARABLE, MUST BE KILLING BUGS THERE.
WHEN I COULDN'T SLEEP,FOR LOTS OF REASONS, ONE OF WHICH I WENT OUT TO MY SHED AND STARTED CLEANING IT UP AND LIFTED A FEW THINGS THAT WERE HEAVY AND MADE MY BACK START HURTING, SO I TOOK A SHOWER AND A PAIN PILL. I HAVE NOTICED THAT I AM COLD MORE. I JUST FELT THAT MY THERMOSTAT HAD FINALLY KICKED IN AND I WAS NOT GOING TO BE SO EXTREMELY HOT ANYMORE. I HATED SUMMER CAUSE I WAS ALWAYS HOT. IT IS SO NICE NOW TO SEEM LIKE I HAVE A NORMAL TEMP. IT EVEN FEELS GOOD TO BE COLD. FEELS NORMAL.
I ALSO HAD KNEE PAIN IN BOTH KNEES. I NEVER THOUGHT OF THIS AS A HERX BEFORE BECAUSE I WAS ADVISED BY AN ORTHOPEDIC DOC THAT I NEEDED KNEE REPLACEMENT. I JUST THOUGHT THIS WAS NORMAL PAIN. I WILL NOW CONSIDER THIS AS HERX AND THAT BUGS ARE BEING KILLED.
I GOT MY DVD'S TODAY AN AFTER WATCHING ONE OF THEM REALIZED A FEW THINGS ABOUT HERX I NEVER CONSIDERED BECAUSE THE THE PAIN I HAVE BEEN IN, IT SEEMS LIKE, MOST OF MY LIFE.

Barney,
I noticed in reading your progress reports and signature line that you had a nephrectomy due to a cyst (rt) kidney. Could you give me some background on this. In other words, did your doctors automatically presume this was sarc before they removed it (since you had previous dx of sarc) or were they telling you there a possibility that it was renal cell carninoma? (I've been told they never biopsy kidneys due to the high incidence of growths beeing cancerous and the chance of spreading, as RCC is not treatable with radiation or chemotherapy). Was it affecting kidney function? Other symptoms? Off labs?
If there were no symptoms that might not resolve on the MP, would you in hindsight make the decision, now to have it removed, knowing what you now know?
I have a 4+ cm. cysts covering the top pole of my left kidney. I am being given the RCC (Renal Cell Carcinoma) scar, and I am not sure that the growth isn't the result of occult bacteria.
Does your remaining kidney function well, has it been affected by TH1 disease?
Any info you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

I had absolutely no pain or indication of anything wrong with my (r) kidney. I had a urine test in May 95 and everything was fine. In July 95 (2 months later) I had blood cells in my urine TNTC (too numerous to count). I had a cat scan in early August and they found what they were sure was cancer. My urine was maroon colored.
You are correct about no biopsy on kidneys in case it is cancer. If only 2 cells get loose you will not make it. It will spread like wildfire. That is exactly what my doc told me.
On August 24, 95, they removed my right kidney to find that it was a cyst and that there was barely any kidney left. They also said it was encased with a 'plastic' type substance which they were very careful not to perferate.
There was nothing else to do but remove it, it was 'gone'. No pain till after surgery and then it hurt for 8 months. Could not lay on my right side. It felt like there was a big hole in there. Everything has since shifted and it does not feel that way. Once in a great while there is a little pain on the right, but not much anymore.

I made a mistake in my post last night. I took 100mg Mino.
I had a strange thing happen with my (R) eye this morning. It looked like to the far right of the tv screen that I saw black and while stripes (best way I can describe it) and in the middle of the eye part of the picture was blurry or missing. I have had this before, but this time I was also very nauseated and dzzy if I moved to fast. I went to bed and slept and when I got up, everything is okay.
Knee (R) is still hurting. Hoping MP is going to help that too. Do not want a knee replacement.
Went to town this PM after dark. Stayed about an hour and came home. Nice to get out in fresh air. (As fresh as it gets nowadays)

HAVE NOT BEEN GOING TO BED UNTIL AFTER 2AM OR LATER AND NOT GETTING UP BEFORE 11AM TO 3PM. SINCE I DO GET QUITE A BIT OF SLEEP WHETHER IT BE DAY OR NIGHT, I DO NOT FEEL LIKE IT IS INSOMINIA. IT IS SO PEACEFUL AFTER MIDNIGHT, I CAN CATCH UP ON TV, DISHES, WATER PLANTS, PLAY WITH DOG OR WHATEVER THAT I CANNOT SEEM TO GET TO BECAUSE THE PHONE IS RINGING OR I AM DOING SOMETHING FOR OTHERS.
PLUS, IF YOU SLEEP PART OF THE DAY AWAY, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PUT UP WITH IT TAKING SO MANY HOURS UNTIL SUN GOES DOWN. WHEN I WAS GETTING UP ONLY DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS, I WOULD ANTICIPATE FOR 14 HOURS WAITING FOR THE SUN TO GO DOWN TO GO OUT AND BY THEN I WAS SO TIRED THAT I HAD NO ENERGY LEFT TO GO OUTSIDE. THIS WAY IT WORKS OUT BETTER FOR ME.
I JUST REALIZED THAT IN THE LAST FEW DAYS MY 'OSTEO' SHOULDERS DO NOT HURT. I HAVE CRIED FOR YEARS WITH THE PAIN IN THEM. OH, WHAT A RELIEF.
I AM TRYING TO GET READY FOR MY 300 MILE TRIP TO ALBUQUERQUE FOR MY GRANDDAUGHTER'S GRADUATION (LAST GRANDCHILD) ON FRIDAY MORN. I WILL TRAVEL AT NIGHT TO AVOID SUN AND CONTINUE ON 100MG MINO UNLESS THE SUNLIGHT EXPOSURE GETS TO BE TOO MUCH, THEN I WILL BACK OFF TO 50MG QD AND THEN NOT TAKE MY SECOND ANTIB UNTIL I GET BACK (PROBABLY ON MONDAY).
PROBABLY WILL NOT POST WHILE I AM GONE, BUT WILL CONTINUE TO KEEP MY PAPER JOURNAL GOING.

Thank you Barney, so much for sharing your experiences with me. I appreciate you taking the time to do so, when you were busy preparing for your trip. I hope you have a wonderful time at your grandchild's graduation!
One last question if I may (since I am seeing quite a few at the sarc site who have undergone nephrectomies) when biopsied did this cyst show any signs of carcinoma? I am presuming it (the kidney) needed to be removed since you said "there was barely any kidney left", but was this due to a benign or malignant cyst? (after it underwent scrutiny in the lab).

hrts,
the pathology report stated there was no cancer, just that the cyst left nothing of the kidney, so it was removed. they wanted to be sure there was no cancer also.

DAY 136, 5/16/05, PHASE 2, DAY 7, CYCLE 4, BP 108/66/P93, BENICAR 20MG Q3HRS, BENICAR 40MG MIDNIGHT, NO MINO, NO 2ND ANTIB, 1 ACIDOP, NO PAIN PILLS, ALL TOLERABLE
KNEE IS STILL HURTING BUT EASING OFF TO SOME DEGREE.
DID NOT SLEEP WELL, DREAMED ALL NIGHT AND TOSSED A TURNED, SHOULD NOT HAVE GONE TO BED AT MIDNIGHT. SLEPT MOST OF MORNING IN RECLINER, A GOOD RESTFUL SLEEP.
THAT IS ABOUT IT FOR TODAY.
HANG IN THERE, WE WILL MAKE IT!!! BARNEY

Dear hrts,
I noticed in your signature line you noted that you also have kidney stones.
I did not have any stones at any time and from what I hear of the pain from others, I am very thankful I did not.
However, when my gallbladder was removed they found 1 stone and a very abnormal wall with leakage. Guess that was why I looked ashen gray before they removed it 2 months after the kidney removal. Then there were 4 more surgeries after that (all within 14 months). I must be 'a tough old bird' to have survived all that and sarc too.
I am doing better (much better) on MP. So grateful to Trevor Marshall.
Thought maybe you might find this also helpful.
