I'm starting this new thread for those without access to the Phase 2 and 3 forums to follow my progress with the MP for my Ankylosing Spondylitis.
The beginning of Phase 2 presented some challenges for me but things are smoothing out now and I'm managing pretty well. The problems I had were what appeared to be multiple infections. I had infections in both ears and eyes that resisted antibiotic treatment. After stopping the ear and eye drops and using warm compresses on my eyes for a few days everything resolved. I've come to the conclusion that these may have actually been Immunopathology reactions due to my better functioning immune system reacting to some very longstanding subclinical infections.
Now I'm making pretty good progress in Phase 2 and learning to manage the meds and timing. I'm having strong arthritis type pain in my back now and am having a lot of ups and downs with my energy levels. I notice I'm sleeping more than I usually do also.
Overall, after a pretty bumpy start I'm doing well in Phase 2. More to follow as I progress, thanks all for participating and to the board moderators for their tireless efforts!

Just a quick update, I recently passed the 6 month mark on the protocol...
I went to my doctor today for a followup. She was pretty happy with the results so far and wrote me another Benicar prescription as I was on my last refill.
The treatment is going along fairly steady. I'm still experiencing some pain in my back and knees though it does seem somewhat reduced. I overdid it in the sun over the long weekend and experienced a pretty good sun flare on my skin and eyes. I took a couple of half tabs of Benicar in between my normal doses and layed low the day after and all was fine. Lesson learned.

I'm now in Phase III as of November 18th 2007...
Overall I'm feeling pretty good at the beginning of Phase III. The starting reduced antibiotic dosages seems to have resulted in a temporary decrease in symptoms which has been a nice break for the holidays last week. I was able to participate in all of the holiday festivities and shopping with my family without much trouble with the help of a few extra half tablets of Benicar in between my standard doses. Several months ago I would have been absolutely wiped out by this much activity so I am pretty impressed, it kind of snuck up on me...
My fatigue is down noticeably from the end of Phase II. At times the fatigue during Phase II was very strong, especially at the later stages and higher doses. My back and joint pain remains manageable and other miscellaneous symptoms including dry eyes and GI distress are in check. I've also noticed alot of little changes that are very encouraging including much improved skin and muscle tone.
I'm going to begin ramping the antibiotics back up so I expect plenty more symptoms to come...

Well today marks 11 months on the protocol for my Ankylosing Spondylitis. I'm nearly at the full dosage of Phase 3. It's been a very long ramping up process but I think that taking my time has been wise overall. My symptoms now are pretty tolerable and my energy levels are much improved most of the time. I still get an occasional flair up of symptoms such as back and joint pain, fatigue, photosensitivity etc. but they seem to be coming less frequently as I progress.
I've been feeling pretty good this cycle with almost no back pain just some tightness. I went to my MD yesterday and he's very happy with my progress thus far and recommended adding some light exercize when I'm up to it. I've actually been contemplating that myself so I think I'm going to start working out on my treadmill but plan on taking it very slowly. I also went in for labs so will have an updated vit D number to post soon.
So far I'd say that the MP has been working as advertised for me. It's been by no means easy but it seems as though I turned the corner at around 9 months and now it's beginning to pay off...

I'm happy to report that I'm continuing to do quite well on the Marshall Protocol for my Ankylosing Spondylitis. I've been at the full dosage of the basic Phase III meds for several months now and the symptoms have become quite tolerable most of the time. In fact probably about half of the time now I feel good enough that I have to consciously remind myself to take all my meds on time.
I do continue to have moderate to severe fatigue and intense photosensivity at a couple of particular points in the antibiotic cycle but they are much shorter lived than previously. My back and other joint pain is nominal at this point and I very rarely need any kind of additional pain relievers. I also had a recent back x-ray come back normal which was surprising to me and my doctor. His comment was that AS can be tricky to read on an x-ray but that maybe it had something to do with the Marshall Protocol...
