I have a yeast infection. What should I do?

Yeast infections are often misdiagnosed. Dr. Marshall states: "Maybe because you are diagnosing it as a 'yeast problem' when it actually is a problem caused by "those tiny, tiny bacteria, smaller even than yeast spores, called Cell Wall Deficient or L-forms. The immune system is not killing co-infections because it is being over-excited by the intra-phagocytic bacteria which are causing the Th1 diseases. As you return to health, these problems disappear.

The bacterial protein-synthesis-inhibiting antibiotics clear up the condition you are all describing as 'yeast'. That does not necessarily mean the condition is a yeast infection secondary to CWD, although it certainly could be. It could be a misdiagnosis of 'yeast'.

We are dealing with a very complex and interwoven set of issues, and I want to emphasize that they must be looked at as part of a larger 'whole' and that we should not force labels like 'yeast overgrowth' onto them and consider them solved.

In any case, 'yeast medications' only temporarily help the condition - again a sign of misdiagnosis, IMO. Deal with the CWD and the 'yeast' symptoms disappear. Mine did. Half a century of 'jock itch' disappeared in just a few months."

ALL THE ANTIFUNGALS PROFOUNDLY AFFECT THE HOST IMMUNE SYSTEM

Do not use any of the antifungals unless it is absolutely 100% necessary. Please read Candidiasis (yeast infection) first.

Dr. Marshall did not say that antifungals should never be taken. But when someone is having trouble on the MP, we look to the other meds being taken, such as antifungals to see, if they might be causing a problem.

If your doctor has prescribed an antifungal for a yeast (candidiasis) infection, you may need to take care of that first if it inhibits your progress on the MP. But keep in mind that your 'yeast infection' may not need special treatment. This is an individual decision between you and your doctor.

" Fluconazole (Diflucan) is sometimes prescribed to treat fungal (candida) infections. It directly inhibits the enzyme which catalyzes 25-D to change to 1,25-D and the resultant hormonal rebalancing can be profound.

That is also the action of putting Ketaconazole on the skin. Keratinocytes still convert 7-dehydro-cholesterol to 25-D but the ketaconazole tends to block the conversion of the 25-D to 1,25-D.

We typically deprecate the use of Fluconazole because its safety profile is not as good as the other MP medications, especially in the high doses which are typically used by the LLMD and CFS Docs."

As soon as one feels the very first symptoms of thrush- itch tingling, etc.-adjusting the MP meds schedule can make a difference and prevent the thrush. Please see:
My immune system reaction is too strong. What should I do?

- Over-the-counter topical preparations to reduce itching are sometimes helpful (use sparingly).
-You may treat intolerable vaginal yeast infections with an antifungal cream for a couple weeks past the relief of symptoms. Rotate the different creams if the infection persists. Prescription strength may be necessary if OTC doesn’t work.
- You can insert a pessary either Rx from your Dr or available OTC from your Pharmacist.
-In a pinch, a clove of garlic will relieve symptoms until you can buy an OTC antifungal cream or see your doctor.
-After each B.M., cleanse the area thoroughly and apply the antifungal cream around the anal area.
-Suggest to use Baby Wipes for best comfort.

Member's experience:
September 09: -I found that when nothing else I tried would relieve the acute inflammation - along with taking Benicar orally, inserting a small piece of Benicar tablet vaginally gave relief within half an hour, and lasted for 3+ hours. + washing externally with warm water, as needed. There was noticable resolution by 10 days, and fully by a month.
also, I have achieved relief by crushing the Benicar, & applying the dry powder to areas of inflammation, .
&, I have mixed it with skin cream to apply. ~ B

-I found that douching with a grapefruit seed extract mixed with warm water, was most beneficial. Now, 16 months into the MP with no breaks, and on a slow paced phase two, I hardly know what a yeast infection is. I have only had to use a cream about twice and swabs have come back negative for it, which was unheard of before. ~Kas

-I also used a tampon soaked in Grapefruit seed extract and took it out every few hours and replaced with another one for about 4 days. The fifth day I added a bit of tea tree oil, which made it feel very tingly down there. It went away. ~goobygirl

Here is a primer on the pH of urine.

The irritation may be due to vulvodynia. This may or not be related to an alteration in the pH of urine but this article offers self care options to reduce symptoms. If you are concerned do not hesitate to contact your Dr.

-oral yeast infections may be helped by the use of a mouthwash with CPC. See Mouthwash

What finally worked for Kas
(filelink)

I douched with two capfuls of hydrogen peroxide tonight - best relief yet!

I stopped the mino for from Friday to Sunday just to give my yeast infection a bit of break. The prescription cream did nothing to help matters and in fact, I can honestly say there was zero improvement after using the strongest one. So, off I decided to experiment a bit. The hydrogen peroxide douching offered some relief, but then I remembered that I had liquid grapefruit seed extract in the house, so I put five drops in a 60z douche container and used that. A bit of a burn at first, but then great relief. I tried that every 12 hours in the morning and used an acidophillus and garlic suppository at night to repopulate the good flora, and bingo - relief at last! I am feeling SO much better on the yeast score. I did some research on the internet, and see that you can douche with GSE for about a week safely, so I will continue doing so for another few days and see if it helps once I am back on the mino. I may have to repeat this yeast treatment repeatedly throughout my MP, if it continues working for me.

The yeast is now under much better control, thanks to the measures outlined in my previous posting. I spoke to my local pharmacist today and she said that she had received great success with a Betadine douche once a week and would order some in for me. She seemed Ok with me using the grapefruit seed douche when needed, and so did my doctor, who says that she can see no harm in it and if it keeps things at bay, so much the better. I can honestly tell you that those creams do nothing at all for me and even sometimes make matters worse. Sometimes natural treatments are the way to go, it seems.
