I was surprised and elated to find this mention of Dr. M's work while researching RA causes: http://charles_w.tripod.com/arthritis2.html.
Interesting that he cites numerous researchers' implication of bacteria dating way back...he's not right on the mark, but he's hot on the trail!

But even though hot on the trail, he still hasn't figured out the key elements of the science: the fact that the Microbiota is intraphagocytic, and that it is composed of many microbes which are not yet thought to be pathogens.
Nor does he realize that the microbes actually shut the VDR down, not accelerate the production of Cathelicidin. Sigh...
It would be nice if these folk were to contact me with drafts of stuff they were going to put into their books, or webpages...

This writer was just listing a lot of "proposed" causes/cures for RA, and happened to include MP.
With a mother with longstanding RA, and a DH w/recently acquired RA, I was always suspicious of the claims that your body is "attacking iteself". And it's not: it's attempting to kill the "hidden" bacteria, and can't get at them because they are protected inside your own white blood cells.
It's kind of like a hostage situation, where a robber goes into a bank, takes a teller at gunpoint and uses her for a human shield. The police can't shoot him because they would kill her, too. But if they throw in some teargas and disable him, then they can rescue the teller and take out the bad guy
But the TELLER is not robbing the bank. That's what the "autoimmune" theory proposes.

Since several of you PM’ed me about this, I thought I’d flesh out the tale:
Robber enters bank and grabs teller at gunpoint. He forces her into the safe and tells her to start filling his bag with money. Fearing for her life, she does. Security camera image shows teller frantically putting money in bag. Police arrive and order robber to come out. He reappears, holding bag of money and teller in front of him, gun to her head. Police can’t shoot robber without killing teller. Police throw in teargas…robber lets go of teller and both come running out, coughing and gagging. Police grab robber and cuff him, give first aid to teller, and give money back to banker.
INTERPRETATION: Bank is your body. Teller is your immune system. Robber is CWD bacteria. Gun is Vitamin D. Security camera is diagnostic tests. Police are antibiotics. Teargas is Benicar. Coughing is immunopathology. Story is called “MP Wins Again”. Ending is happy.
NOW, LET’S RE-WRITE THE STORY AS MAINSTREAM MEDICINE SEES IT:
Robber enters bank and grabs teller at gunpoint. He forces her into the safe and tells her to start filling his bag with money. Fearing for her life, she does. Security camera image shows teller frantically putting money in bag. Security guard looks at security camera and says, “That teller must be suffering from PMS. Call her shrink.” Then he hollers, “Helen, what are you doing in the safe?” Robber, assessing the situation, takes bag of money from her and tells her to go out. She comes out, head down, and is placed in custody of her shrink, who gives her Paxil and puts her on disability. While security guard is occupied with teller/shrink, robber finishes emptying safe, writes down safe combination, and escapes out back door; he continues to slip in back door each week and clean out safe until bank is broke.
INTERPRETATION: Bank is your body. Teller is your immune system. Robber is CWD bacteria. Gun is Vitamin D. Security camera is diagnostic tests. Security guard is mainstream medicine. Shrink is steroids. Story is called “Marvels of Modern Medicine”. Ending is disastrous.
In the context of so-called “auto-immune disease”, if you just looked at the footage from the security camera, you would think the teller was robbing the bank, just as diagnostic testing makes it appear that your body is attacking itself. The security camera image is very real, but you need the rest of the facts to interpret it. The “auto-immune” diagnosis is also lacking the rest of the facts: CWD bacteria and hormone D immunosuppressant. Lacking these facts, it appears that a malfunctioning immune system (teller gone crazy) is the culprit instead of the CWD with their concealed weapon (Hormone D).
