Observations: After a period of 4 star days/feeling really good I began to regress a little bit. Some old sx beginning to resurface but more mild than previous days. I am anxious to start on my new second abx after my morning dental exam and teeth cleaning on Tuesday. Didn't want to chance it before it as I will be driving myself and I don't want to be too fatigued, brain fogged or anything else. I feel am making slow progress towards better health & it is all a relief. Less pain is probably the biggest relief so far and less malaise would be next. The food intolerance & that icky, sick, toxic, infected, fluish feeling is seldom around now. Of course you all realize I speak only of times I am not herxing. I have the hope at the end of the next 3 months progress will become more evident as I work my way through the MP to my 1st year anniversary. Hang in there ... we will make it!

Hello ... just thought I'd post a quick report here for all of you without access to PH 2 & 3 board in case you are wondering how my progress is going.
I am on:
DAY 308 (full protocol) - MON. 3 PM. - TUES. 3 PM. - 06/20/21/2005.
PHASE 2 @ DAY 149. / started C. on 06/07/05.
Benicar 40 mg. q6h. / 100 Mino + C. / No Z / No Q.
Basically I am feeling some good signs of wellness when I am not herxing. I am not as fatigued as in past days, I do not have as much pain or cognitive troubles. In general I am feeling more well and less infected and less toxic. The windows of feeling like my ole self are increasing and I am hopeful that I am over the worst of my herx days. But I am realistic enough to not count on it as this just may be a window of time when everything is working for the better. My light sensitivity has decreased somewhat but I still use my NoIRs as recommended, K cream and cover up. But often I find while wearing my 10% NoIRs in the house I need to lift them up to see what the heck I'm looking at...when I do I don't feel that "supernatural bright light" hitting my eyes like in days gone by. I do know I have a way to go before I am well but I am feeling very positive about the effects of the MP on me and will continue on until I am totally in remission. This is the best I have felt in 4 years since I became very ill. Hope all of you beginning the MP take heart that better days are ahead. Keep up the good fight and your reward will be coming. It took me 10 months to get here though so don't expect a quick fix but do expect good results if you follow the MP directions. There are no short cuts unfortunately but a cure is worth it! Happy herxing all.
My best to you in your battle for good health,
CL
PS.... Also... announcing Cricket has a little sister ... on the 14th we got Ladybug a 3 mo. old black pom that looks remarkably like Cricket. I could not have taken her on if I wasn't better and fortunately she is an intelligent & content pup. Sleeps all night every night & does not demand much so far! I am spending more time outdoors because of her needs but with caution ... covering up .... things are going well. She is motivating me to stretch my wings which I personally feel is good timing.

Hello to anyone concerned with heart herxing!
I have read your posts and just wanted to encourage you with a few words today in regards to your interest in heart herxing on the MP.
I too have heart issues. I was hospitalized in 2001 and diagnosed loosely with pericarditis because I wasn't a classic case. When the so called pericarditis continued month after month and then added symptoms began multiplying they changed the diagnosis to Fibromyalgia.
I now know that it was the TH1 disease causing all my symptoms. Basically I have had heart area pain since that time in the form of chest pressure, soreness and stabbing or pinching pains and frequent arrhythemias.
I started the MP Aug 2004 and have taken it quite slow to avoid too much heart herxing. The beauty is ... YOU are in control. Whenever the heart herxing felt too uncomfortable for me I increased my benicar from 6 hrs to 4 hrs. and decreased my antibiotics or took my 50 mg. Minocycline dose daily instead of QOD until I felt the herx wane.
The key to it is to be aware of how you are feeling and if things feel to strange or uncomfortable you alter the MP to suit your needs. The moderators will always be a click away to give you advise if you feel uncertain and I am sure your MP doctor will also be open to these adjustments.
I hope what I have shared will give you some confidence to go forth. My heart inflammation over the past year has diminished considerably and so I no longer have the pain levels that I once suffered. That to me verifies that I am improving and I am on the right track. I still get heart herxes but they are controllable and the pressure and arrythmias although are very irritating no longer cause me such concern. I have been through the cycles enough times to have a good feel for what is going on and I can regulate them without too much distress.
Hope something I've shared has helped you. If you have any questions please send me a PM and I would be glad to answer you.
Here's to better health for all of us. My best to you, CelticLadee

August 17th was my 1 year anniversary on the MP. Here is my little 1 yr. observation.
1 year observation: When I look back on this past year I see that I have walked a somewhat difficult road on the MP brought on by days on end of herxing & isolation from the MP lifestyle. It has been a lot of work no doubt about that. But on the other hand I can see the progress I have made.
I would say that my pain levels are down by about half from a year ago. I believe the next 6 months to a year I will make my greatest strides as I continue down the MP road. I have taken it slow and steady to avoid running into any big herx troubles since my heart has chronic inflammation. I have felt times of frustration at the slow pace I have had to walk my MP road but I know I am doing the best thing to insure good health in my future.
I am grateful to say that this was the first year in four years I did not experience almost daily debilitating headaches. I look forward to losing the pressure around my heart and the arrhythemias, the parenthesia, periphreal neuropathy, chronic fatigue, brain fog, chronic sinus troubles, & especially the insomnia & light sensitivity. These all have improved somewhat at times but depending on how my herx is going matters how much of a nuisance they become.
Once again I am very grateful Doctor Marshall has made his brilliant protocol available to all of us and hope my second year produces great results. I believe it will and I am excited in anticipation to see what the MP can do for me this next year. My best to all of you.

Update: I am coming to the end of Phase 2 and will begin Phase 3 in the near future.
Phase 2 has been difficult, but not impossibly so & has really produced great results.
I have great hopes! It feels like I have turned a corner as I feel a greater sense of wellness these days. I am able to sleep more easily at night more often, I have less enduring symptoms and for the most part my symptoms have decreased in their intensity. I have periods of time during the day I almost feel perfectly well and it really just tickles me beyond words to realize I am truly getting well. My activities continue to slowly expand as I am able to function longer hours without any repercussions or only slight ones. I believe this is going to be a good year for me!
Happy New Year everybody! CL

I read your post on heart herxing - how are things going now? You wrote about cutting back on your antibiotics during the attacks - when you mentioned taking the 50mg dose what exactly did you mean was this a larger or smaller dose than the one you were taking. Are you still herxing? How often were the episodes coming at the worst phase and how long did they last on average? When did you begin to notice improvments and where are you now in your progress? You mentioned that you were going easy on the MP - what did that mean - what schedule did you use to avoid a to agressive reaction? Have you taken breaks? If so how long was your longest break? How did you feel during the break
Hope I am not overwhelming you with questions - I/m sure that you understand that those first interested in MP have many questions and beyond scientific explanations - personal experiences of individuals on MP are most useful.

08-04-06 - Progress Report @ 2 years on MP.
I numbered your questions so it would be easier for me to concentrate. I hope my memory serves me well and I tried to be as honest and clear as possible in my answers below:
1.) As far as heart herxing I seldom have it now. Occasionally I do have a little bit of soreness around the heart area and some mild chest pressure but it does not last very long. Maybe an hour or two. It is usually brought on by a change in antibiotics or an increase in dosage. Also sometimes if I get too much light exposure outdoors. I very seldom have arrhythemia and I no longer have stabbing pains. I am stronger and have increased stamina so do not feel the chronic fatigue anymore most often. I seldom lay down in the day time and never nap these days.
2.) What I meant by taking the 50 mg. dose is that while taking minocycline every other day if my herx became intolerable I would also take 50 mg. on the day I usually skipped. I believe at that time I was taking 100 mg. minocycline. I didn’t have to do that very often however. Taking more frequent doses of Benicar worked for me most of the time.
3.) Yes, I am still herxing. But the herxing isn’t as difficult now. It doesn’t last as long or feel as strong. Plus it is occurs in some different areas than in Phase 1 or 2. For example my right arm and shoulder are constantly bothering me with pain in various degrees and has for several months now. Whereas I seldom have heart herxing.
4.) Hmmmmm. I think the heart herxes came consistently when I increased my antibiotics or changed them. They were the worst during Phase 1 and starting Phase 2 but eventually not as bad.. I am not very far along in Phase 3 but so far it hasn’t been much of a problem for me now.
5.) Improvements can be subtle because herxing changes to various degrees for a variety of reasons. But I would say the most dramatic improvements have came at the beginning of this year (that would be between 16-24 mo. on the MP). It is also when I went through some of my worst digestive organ (liver, etc.) herxing so it was a dichotomy for me. But when I got over that it was like I broke through a barrier and my husband, family and friends have noticed I am much stronger now. I can go all day doing my chores without feeling sicker. This has been so encouraging. My most irritating symptom now is that I am still very light intolerant outdoors. Especially while herxing more when increasing antibiotics or changing them. I get a light head, chest pressure, and feel worse overall if I stay too long outdoors. However I do not need to where any eye protection in our darkened house now or while watching TV or using the PC monitor. Next I’d say my other bothersome symptoms are the fibromyalgia type pains and the sleep disturbances. But I need to add they are not nearly as bad they were in the past. Most of my other symptoms have disappeared, are milder or appear in shorter episodes.
6.) What I meant by "I am going easy on the MP" is if I felt any intolerable symptoms I didn’t ramp up on my antibiotics or add on another one. So I went by how much pain I was feeling not wanting my level of pain to become intolerable was my goal. I have since learned this is not the only thing I should consider. Last winter I was suffering a queasy stomach very often and my appetite reflected it so I began to lose weight. I wasn’t registering in my mind that this was an intolerable herx so I kept ramping up my antibiotics because I could handle my pain levels at that time. In Jan. 2006 I had many blood tests done and discovered my liver was inflamed causing my troubles. My ALT and AST readings were pretty high in the mid to upper 200's. So now I will answer your question differently than before from experiencing all of that. Now I am focusing on discomfort not just pain. I do not ramp up my antibiotics if it increases my discomfort too much of any type.
This may have been clear to others but perhaps I gauge things differently. It is also interesting to note that when I was on two antibiotics of mid doses I had more pain in my right arm and shoulder than I am now having on three antibiotics of the lowest possible doses. So sometimes a change can be beneficial. If by my trying this I would have had the opposite results I would have gone back to taking just two antibiotics or tried a different combination of lowest dose possible of three antibiotics. So I guess you cannot speak in absolutes because of things like this and also every MP patient seems to react a little differently. The MP custom fits according to your personal needs so I can appreciate you wanting to delve further into experiences to help others.
I really hope my sharing helps someone. It is my main motivation in spending time writing at this website. I feel strongly it is the least I can do after what Doctor Trevor and the staff have done for me. I owe them a debt that can never be repaid.
7..) You can read about my break in the general discussions. in about my break I think it will answer your questions.
If you do have further questions or I haven’t been clear on something please ask.
If I think for too long and hard my brain still gets a little mushy but it is much better than it use to be thankfully.

Hello MPers!
Thought it was time to put in a little update for you here.
After almost another year on the MP - phase 3 - I am taking a little break.
Observations: Unlike last year when I took my abx vacation I find this year I am faring very well.
I still have some troubles but I feel so much more healthy than last year. My immune system seems to be staying in check without abx so I don't have a run away immunopathology response this year unlike last year.
Things are going well for me so this has been a great experience so far. It will be difficult to decide to take the abx again when I feel so good without it. But the little jolts of my symptoms reminding me I still have some infection will keep me on track. Plus remembering how I just could not get past the (for me personally) "wicked" Z beginning dose on my 3 abx combo.
It has been wonderful to have enough good health to attend some activities with our granddaughters and do some long awaited projects on the house without too much trouble. I just wish I was less light intolerant/photosensitive and am hoping for an improvement soon. This particular symptom is fast becoming my worst hurdle in view of recent changes.
I am glad I am doing this abx vacation because I am beginning to realize anew how much the MP has continued to have helped me out. I still have a way to go I know but this really is great insight for me to see once again how far I have come. Now that the Z has almost completely decayed away I am feeling a lot more positive these days especially because my arm/shoulder pain is decreasing measurably finally so I am not so concerned about it. It is wonderfully good to not be so irritable from that almost constant pain and worry. I still do have little blasts of heart & liver troubles but they do not seem to stay overly long nor seem as serious as they once were.
Usually symptoms are induced by too much light in regards to the heart symptoms or too much fat in my diet or exposure to chemicals for my liver to flare up. Also another pesky symptom I still regularly have is the slight numbish sensations & mild pains in my brain/sinuses/head/tooth pains which come and go along with the sore spots on my scalp.
But compared to the symptoms I was plagued with when I started the MP this is all such a very remarkable improvement in my health. Again many thanks to TM and the team. You are beyond awesome in my book! I just cannot thank you enough for what you have done for me ... for all of us. Kudos for you!
Hang in there MPers ... it can be a slow process for some of us ... but it is worth winning back your health! Each year I can see I am better off.
Cheers! CL
Edit to add: The symptoms I listed above ... on a scale of 1-10 intensity ... 10 being the greatest discomfort ... have generally dropped to 5 or below. So although I still experience some of the same symptoms they are much more mild and much more bearable.
The exception is the arm/shoulder pain which is a new one for me since 2006.
The liver area pain is also a new one since 2006 but has improved.
