The Study Site Database crashed at 7pm PST 30 Dec 08

I think the messages were all recovered, although the poster's names seem to be missing from the front-page summary

Please let me know if any of your posts during the last 2 days are garbled or missing.

Please post the link here in this thread.

Happy New Year, everybody :):)

I notice we peaked with 401 users on Tue Dec 23rd, 2008. (Whoa.)

Tuesdays are also peak use of my library's website.

Any idea what caused this spike in use? Is it all those new users?

When I get a chance, I'm going to create a temporary static home page for the MP site. (For those who don't know, static pages are less server intensive - fewer queries.) Anyone who wants to help or offer criticism can PM me or post here. The help would involve refining language, deciding which links to include, etc. Watch this space for a link to a draft of this page.

Paul,
That 401 number is not real. It was an artifact of a shift in the server's clock, being adjusted 2 hours when at one point it got set to CST and not PST.

So you are seeing 2 hours of extra accumulated logins there, and that corresponds to an additional usage of 401/2/4 (15 minutes is my normal time-increment on this site), which is about the average 40 logins every 15 minutes for the site at the moment :)

I would love the new front-page. I have a new dedicated server online now, and will be moving the whole MP site over to that within the next few days.

It will be nice to get a decent response time from the database, and to have room to grow :)

I just went into the SQL database and manually patched that 401 number :)

Here is a temporary home page for you:
http://malbertphoto.com/paul/testmp.html

It comes in at 24k. With minification, I could probably get it down into the teens. By the way, I am using inline style declarations and that should slow down the processing speed marginally. I can change that.

If this is something we want to go with, I would ask for feedback.

Note that the Google Custom Search Engine searches bacteriality, curemyth1, marshallprotocol, mplifestyles, mpkb, etc. I'm not sure if the mpkb is being indexed. There are certainly very few inbound links there.

Hi Paul,

I like the look of your proposed front page. :) Content and organization are good too.

The MPKB probably is not being indexed because of the concern that pages were too much in a rough form to be ready for the great exposure of google-land. There is probably a tweak to robots.txt that would allow the papers/presentations section to be indexed.

Thanks, Wytnez and Joyful.

I don't think we have to tweak robots.txt quite yet. The inbound hard links are enough.

Also, I know that the site looks just a wee bit bland. I've decided I'm going to stop messing around with logos and instead focus on other stuff. Anyone else who wants to add a background image here or there is welcome to chip in.

Nice work, Paul. Front page looks great & has just enough verbiage for laypeople.

Hope you all have a great 2009. Keep up the great work!

Paul,

The page looks great. Will it stay up or is it a temporary fix? I am looking for a new PCP and I think this would be a great starting place for anyone doing research. Thanks for all your work. You guys are incredible.

As far as I know, the game plan is to leave this version open for comment for a period of a day or two and then to have it become the new MP home page.

At a certain point, Trevor will download the 5 or 6 files and take care of all that.

(Those people who have stronger design skills than myself, and have a design flourish or two they'd like to see, are welcome from here on out to submit improvements. It is kind of bland.)

The custom search engine on the page you see is public, and is also here:

Sometime in the next couple of days I will shift MarshallProtocol.com  from the VPS to the new dedicated server hardware. After that is successfully competed I will change the entry page :)

I think the new page design is perfectly good as it is.
Nothing distracting, just the links and basic information.

It is such a refreshing contrast to the flashy commercial sites
that abound on the internet.

I think your page design is sleek and professional. I like that it is not cluttered. You've done such a great job - both on this and the wiki. Thank you for sharing your expertise and skill. ~Elizabeth

I made a couple changes.
* I added 100% more pictures of Trevor.
* The search is now inline. In other words, it doesn't take you somewhere else.
