Someone brought it to my attention that cleanliness of the Neti Pot is pretty important.
I read that Gene uses a small amount (1/10 of typical) of disinfectant mouthwash in his twice daily neti pot rinses.
Here's the quote from a recent article:
"Tap water is safe for drinking, but not for irrigating your nose," Louisiana's state epidemiologist, Dr. Raoult Ratard, said in a statement. He urged those who want to rinse their sinuses to use distilled, sterile or previously boiled water, and to rinse their neti pot (or other irrigation device) after each use and allow it to air dry.

Thanks for the info, Joyful...
It's never a bad thing to be a little compulsive about cleaning, now, is it?--especially if it's a Neti pot.

After reading this I increased the amount of disinfectant flush I am using and am thinking of using straight bourbon whiskey (not really)
However, it looks like this is a very rare occurrence as noted: "Naegleria fowleri infection is very rare -- only 32 people in the U.S. were affected between 2000 and 2010, the Louisiana warning noted".
Plus, it doesn't sound like there are any undiagnosed cases since those infected die quickly: " -- but it's also very deadly, causing the destruction of brain tissue and usually death within a couple of weeks."
I find the ability to use water as warm as is comfortable the most beneficial flush for me so tap water is the most convenient way to do that.
