| Interesting article, & you'd think intracellular infections would have to switch off or slow down cellular autophagy to persist...

You can also trigger autophagy by restricting protein, either by eating a very low protein diet, or by (intermittent) fasting.
(However, protein restriction is not necessarily a good idea for a sick person, and fasting is immunosuppressive, so don't take this as a recommendation for either.)
