I've seen enough posts here to realize that with the commercial collection centres you are dependent on whether or not the technician's follow the test spec. I'm sure they have access to RCH's instructions for blood handling (they would all be sending it to RCH).
Many here have raised questions whether they actally follow those instructions. At RCH they look up the spec on their intranet before taking the blood (well, the nurse we had did).

Tobi, Peter,
At ARL St. Kilda Rd., my blood taken on 5th July 2005, and all results except the 25d and the 1,25D3 were reported the same day. The 25D was reported from ARL on 11th July, and the 1,25D was reported on 15th July, the letterhead for this report being MH Shared Pathology Service (APA)
Under this heading it shows NATA/RCPA Accredited Laboratories, and gives the tel. nos. for Royal Melb. Hosp; Western Hospital; and Sunshine Hospita; with a Postal Address of Parkville, Vic.
As the printout shows the results of my 2002, 2004 as well as the prsent July 2005 results, I presume it definitely is the Royal Melb. Hosp, as they did both my previous tests for the 1,25D which took 6 wks for results. So things are looking up, with this latest test taking only 10 days.

Betty,
The lab does the std test on wednesdays and 1,25 once a month according to their notes. Therefore how quick you get it back depends on when you take the sample.

Peter,
I have had Vit D tests done at St. John Of God Pathology in Ballarat. In fact I had some done today. They organised a courier (their own) to be at the clinic in Wendouree before my arrival, the driver waited until all samples were collected from me and then took them (suitably wrapped and contained) to the collection centre. (a 5 minute drive). The appropriate sample was frozen and sent to a laboratory in Adelaide. The last time I had this done was in April and it took about 3 weeks to get the results.
Bob.

Hi,
we had no problem getting the results of both tests from Dorevitch Pathology, Melbourne.
They knew to freeze the 1,25D test. (they looked it up in their howto book!)
the 25D took 1 day and the 1,25D took 10 days(working days that is)
the 1,25D is apparently processed at Royal Melbourne Hospital (according to our pathology report)
Also ARL labs apparently are also fine to get these tests done (according to Betty from Melbourne) - even though when I called them they said they had never heard of the 1,25D - so never believe the receptionist!

To all those that have contributed comments - there's nothing left to say except the D results themselves. They should be in my brand-spanking signature.
