Hello everyone,

Spent weekend sleeping and as of today not feeling too bad. Seems like my body is adjusting to the 50 mino....

Had blood work yesterday, BUN, Creatin and thyroid. I am gaining toooooooo much weight(another 10) and per previous posts looking into possible thyroid problem. Would thyroid medicine interfere with protocol???? Also, what would happen if pharmacy gave me generic mino???? same results?

Good Luck to all and Season's Greeting, Deb:cool:

Hi Debbie,

Taking thyroid meds for diagnosed low thyroid is FINE.  Many people are taking generic mino.  That is the powdered capsule form.  The name brand Minocin is pelleted, in capsules.

Meg says, "...I think that Minocin's main advantage is that it's pelletized form is better absorbed in the GI tract so it can be taken with food for those who have sensitive tummies. But a higher dose of minocycline with food would do the same thing. I agree with Trevor that there is no advantage to spending the extra money on Minocin."

Blood results indicated my urea nitrogen went from 25 back down to 19.  My Creatine was 1.0???? They did find I have an underactive thyroid so I will be put on meds. Hope this will help the 20 pound weight gain I've had since beginning protocol. Deb

Debbie,

The decrease in BUN is a good sign. And that creatinine level sounds within normal limits. Both are indications that your kidneys are working fine.

Others can better advise you better thatn I can on thyroid test results and supplementation. I do know that your doctor will want to watch thyroid function carefully as you proceed on the MP and be alert to any improvement in thyroid function.

Good luck with the weight loss (been there, done that!)

Best,

Meg

I am grateful that now I know that I have a thyroid problem which is contributing to my weight problem. Meds started on 12/10/04.
I was evaluating my medical conditions over the last 26 years and noticed several things: New Sarc symptoms appeared after a surgical procedure & weight loss. Tonsils (cough), chest pain & back (tubal ligation & birth of third child), hysterectomy brought anxiety, depression, fatigue, menniers (vertigo) and carpol tunnel surgery followed with diagnosis of pulmonary sarc. Has anyone else noticed this type of pattern??? Before each surgical procedure, I had lost considerable amounts of weight (20+) Is there anywhere to document our history to see if there is a pattern?

12/17/04 marks the start of a 14 day holiday.  Things are not too bad with 75 mg. the usual aches and pains and I will try the 100 mg. during this break. It surprises me how much stomach/bowel problems I have had. Most of you need MOM but I am the other way  I have been sleeping 12+ hours this week. Feel like a slug but I guess this is what is needed to cure this sarc... Have a great, safe weekend. Deb;)

Hi Debbie,

Did you check out the link Barb gave you?  At the bottom of that link there is another link that will tell you how to request the info by sending an em to the admin.

You will be asked to complete a questionnaire first, then if you're ready to proceed, you will be sent the Phase 2 instructions.

This can be done pretty quickly.

Happy Holidays,

Two doses of 100 mino and really very little change in herx from the 75. I wonder if staying home (off work 2 weeks) and if the thyroid meds are helping me in general. I am quite pleased at how well I feel. Best for 2005, Deb

RE: YEAST INFECTIONS

I believe I read somewhere that it is common the longer you are on the protocol for some to get frequent yeast infections? I believe I read of a remedy or preventive medication but could not find it. I would like to have info before I start Phase 2 if possible. Began third dose of 100 mino and so far no additional herx problems. I still question if the thyroid meds and vacation may be helping to control my herx? Deb

Debbie,

I'm not sure where you read that you would be more likely to get yeast while on the MP.  This is simply not the case.  The only safeguard suggested would be to take probiotics daily.

What kind of probiotics should I use?

I'm glad you're feeling better.
