What are the criteria for moving to the next stage of treatment? I am on 40mg Benicar, every 8 hours, minocycline 100mg every 48hrs. The herx, seems bearable now. I took the Benicar for the month of July. Thev I added 100mg mino every second day for August. Herx forced me to take 50mg mino for September. I have been on full MP since with the herx now getting to where I am not missing any work at all.

Hi Bevin,
Welcome to MP.com. Please fill out your signature line so we will have your data each time you post.
The information you are asking is in the phase one guideline. "11. Once your bacterial load is significantly reduced, as indicated by little or no Herxheimer reaction even when taking 100mg of minocycline every other day, it is time to progress to Phase 2 of the protocol, where other antibiotics will be carefully added to continue the bacterial killing process." There is also info about phase two in our FAQs forum.
It's great to see that you are progressing well and not missing work anymore. We have started a new forum for members in phase 2 and 3.
We look forward to hearing about your continuing improvement.
Best,
Meg

July 2006:
I connected the light exposure and food intollerance in 1997, after comming off Prednisone. I cannot differentiat between my symptoms. If I eat corn or fruit, I get the same symptoms as, if I eat food with too much vit. D. I also feel the same sickness, if I have to go out in the sun. My food allergies have lessening with time, although I do seem to pick up new allergies, if I do not rotatate my diet enough.
It takes 12 hours after I eat, before I know if I am light sensetive, to that food. I don't experiment with food allergies, only find out by accident, so I'm not very scientific. I have been telling Trevor abou this for years. I'm overjoyed at the progress that is happening. After all the help from Trevor and the staff, (they saved my life I'm sure),I'm still not sure what came first- the food allergies - or the Sarcoidsis
I never tried organic. I would feel so much like I was going to die, that I would never go back to food that gave me a reaction. I had my heart remapped in Oct/96, was schedualled for pacemaker the next year. Then I figured out the food allergy. Before my procedure, the did a stress test. I did so well, Doc postponed the pacer. I never looked back. Started conversing with Trevor, about 4 years ago, felt healthy enough, but could relate to everthing posted by Dr. Marshall. Tried Mino, just to remind me how sick it made me, when I took it in 1987 for a suspected nasal infection. It was the only drug I ever quit.
When I react to a food now (I'm in phase 3 MP), I may get sick, but can function. Allergies have definitely backed off. Havn't taken Immitrex for Migrains for a couple years.
When I went for my Cardiac MRI, they were unable to obtain gating, and shipped me back and forth between 2 machines, for several hours. They never did get a good picture, and technicians couldn't explain why. I would think, that this probably was not good news. Anyway, I don't go to my heart specialist anymore, and am happy with the information I get from the sites. I can see big changes coming, in the way we are diagnosed in the future.
sincerely Bevin Black
April 2007:
I had allergies to all sorts of pollen, dust etc, but that was nothing compared to food allergies that developed, especially after Prednisone treatment. While on Pred, I had no allergies, that's why I wanted to stay on it. After coming off Pred, I really got sick. What ever I ate most, I started reacting to it. It has probably been 3 years, since Trevor told me, "My allergies would slowly dissapear." He desearves a Nobel Prize for this alone. My allergies are the best they have ever been, in my 56 years.
May 2007:
I think that my carpal tunnel, is not resolving with the rest of my aches and pains. It has awoken me every 20 minutes, all night at times. In desperation, I finally book surgery 3 months ago. Surgeon says to get off Celebrex 10 days prior to surgury. OH-OH! I've been on it since it was invented! So, after 2days my spine and knees are alread pretty much seized. I get the druggist to make me up some corn free pain killer. At about day 4, I come out of almost all my pains.I drop the special Tylenol. I think I may have broken free of my anti inflamatories. Is this possible? Day10, on my way to surgery, I find that my hands are NOT asleep! I meet my surgeon at the operating room. I mention to him, that I have been off work for 3 months for something else, and my hands are not numb (right now). Surgery cancelled. Now, I was out of work for 6 months last year, and the pain never left my hands. I have read in the past, that members on the MP, have found that reducing Celerex, increases immune response- or something to that effect. I also dropped the antibiotics from about day 2 to 6. I also read, that more than one cup of coffee per day, can interfere withe the antinflamitory effect of the Benicar. Hope I hope I havn't made any wrong decisions here!
I have recently stopped the anti depressant Cyprallex. I am still very forgetful, but am doing quite well, with little pain. I was recently refused hernia surgery, because they didn't like my EKG. It still shows second degree heart bloc, and a pulse of 32. It was far worse, years ago. My allergies to corn and fruit, are waning. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
July 2007:
Last week in May, first week in June has always been really bad for my pollen allergies. I've noticed a yellow film on my windshield, a little earlier this year. It didn't seem to be making my eyes itch, no sneezing etc. Anyway, I ended up going to the camp, before the Birch pollen got too bad. When I went down to the lake, it was "COVERED" in a yellow scum! There was a yellow bathtub ring around the whole lake. It was obviously the height of my allergy season. I had "NOT ONE SYMPTOM" this year. It was truly, as if I never had this allergy before. So hang in ther all, it just takes TIME, and the MARSHALL PROTOCAL.
June 2008:
Nothing outstanding to report, just checking in for my reminder. Allergies still waining, I'm eating almost anything now. I have been travelling more, going to restaurants for a while too. Still trying to maintain a fine ballance, extra Benicar when herxing too much. Had to skip Z a couple of times. Had chest pain once after eating Lake Trout. Never had any kind of fish again! Just plugging along, enjoying life.
January 2009:
Well, I think I have finally beat the allergies, or should I say that the Marshall Protocal has cured them. I can go to a restaurant, and order off the menu. I can go to a friends house for dinner. I can go grocery shopping, and not read labels. I can't remember the last time that I had a Migrain, and my memory is still improving. My lung x-rays are not better yet, but am aticipating they will improve along with my heart. Still following the Protocal, 4 years and counting. Have a safe and healthy New Year everybody. | Just had my appointment with the heart specialist. He was very skeptical about the Marshal Protocol at past appointments. He usually holds nothing back, and has made jokes about internet sourses of medical information. He seemed to look puzzled, that the scar from my pacemaker was almost nonexistant, after just 15 months, and remarked that the surgeon had done a good job. After reviewing my charts, medications and phsical examination, he said "Whatever you are doing, KEEP DOING IT" I told him that I thought that I was feeling younger. He said "See me when you are a YEAR YOUNGER" I don't know if it gets much better than this! I am wondering if I should try getting off the Marshal Protocol yet? When do we stop getting better? Its been four and a half years, since We started.

Bevin,
"When you are on a good thing, stick with it"
90% of the cells in your body are bacterial cells. Even after 4-5 years, there will still be bugs to kill.
Besides, you need to keep those years rolling back...
