Hi Kathy ,
Yes, I really started thinking more about this after reading Julia's post Thank you Julia ! Anyway, I have just made an appt with my opthalmologist and will follow up here with any information
Kathy.....can you be a little more specific in exactly what you see when you close your eyes? Do you see birds or just the wing of the bird and in what direction are they flying? Anything else would really be helpful
Best wishes as always

see further Information Will Herxing cause increased eye inflammation? says in part: Anyone with a history of eye inflammation, especially uveitis or iritis, should have their eyes examined regularly while on the Marshall Protocol. The Herxheimer reaction could increase eye inflammation and eye tissues are easily damaged by inflammation.

Thank you Barb ! for the links!
My doctor has agreed to see me right away The only other thing that I just noticed today that is happening is that as I type this, the letters are sloping downhill from left to right That is also kind of unusual.
I will update as soon as I know anything
Thanks!

Day 105 Benicar q40h Minocycyline 75mg q72h
I am just coming out of a sun flare having slept most of the weekend The trip to the eye doctor on Friday was a long one
We took a wrong turn coming home so had to assist with the directions, of course my eyes needed to be opened and even with the 2% wraparounds with the 2% fitovers over them I still developed neurological symptoms and felt unsteady during the weekend but I am doing fine now
While still in transit coming home I realized that both pair of glasses on at the same time were contributing to the headache so I took one pair off and covered my head with a pillow case. That relieved some of the symptoms
The eye exam was difficult for once they dilated my eyes I had an awful time keeping them open for the exam. The doctor stated that it is a floater so I was relieved and there was still no sign of return inflammation
I have a couple of questions regarding my dosing and the length of time between the doses?
1) I took my 4th dose of 75mg minocycline last night spacing every 72 hours. I am definitely NOT herxing badly at this point. I just sleep alot
Early on I had changed the dosing pattern from q48h to q72h but now it does not take me until close to the 72 hour mark to herx so is it preferable to be on the q48h dosing schedule?
2) Is it too early to advance to the 100mg of minocycline? I have just read the link regarding when it is time to advance to Phase 2 and it stated that it is best if done within 3 months so that the resistant bacteria does not start to multiply while still on the minocycline. I feel like I am ready to advance
Thank you!

- You can choose the schedule most suitable to yourself that helps you get the optimum amount of tolerable herxing for your time.
Q 2) Is it too early to advance to the 100mg of minocycline? -If you feel ready to advance to 100mg mino, that is what you do.. and you can send for your Phase 2 Questionnaire as well to begin making your preparations if you like.
all best, Barb ....

Thank you Barb !
Yes, I am ready to advance to 100mg and will try q48h unless intolerable herxing becomes the issue at which point I will go back to q72h
I will also now send for the questionnaire to prepare for Phase 2
Best wishes!

The following was my reply to Meg when she sent me Phase 2 but she informed me that I must post all questions in my report. Thank you Meg! I will take it very slow and when I feel I am ready to advance to Phase 2 I will make an appt with my doctor for the blood work and will follow the instuctions here very carefully!!
The only question I have is: Why have I not be herxing as severely as most of the others in Phase 1? Is that unusual? I do have the feeling that most of my bacteria is deeper within the muscle tissue and that my herxing will be much more in Phase 2 (I just briefly read through Phase 2 and will read it many times over before and while in Phase 2)
I have been very diligent in following the instructions in Phase 1 very carefully. Although I believe the house is dark enough I do not have a lux meter and feel that maybe I should purchase one to be absolutely sure it is not above 30 lux. We have black opaque shower curtains covering every window in the house but sometimes a thin amount of light appears along the sides. I am trying to wear my 2% Noirs more in the house but I am afraid of accident as it does curtail your every move. Do you know where I can purchase a lux meter as I know nothing about them or what to look for when purchasing one?
I will be absolutely sure that the time is right before I enter Phase 2
PS I will add that I did not go to 100mg mino as yet but plan to this weekend. The reason being is that since I have been taking the mino around 11PM or so I think that I am herxing while I am sleeping
I was able to get to sleep around 4:30AM this morning which is 2 or more hours earlier than usual so I am going in the right direction. This morning earlier I had the icy feet again and the start of the foot cramps. I also noticed some soreness in the right upper arm in the bicep or tricep area of the muscle so I think the mino is finally getting a foothold in some of the muscle.
So I guess if I am sleeping through the herxing that must mean that it is tolerable and so therefore should advance but carefully. I just want to be sure that I am killing all the bugs necessary before advancing but also aware that I should not stay too long in this phase before advancing to Phase2.
Also would taking the Benicar 20mg every 4 hours give me more herx than the 40mg every 6 hours. And only take the 40mg before bedtime??
Thanks again!! DianeC

Diana,
My herx symptoms have not been as severe as most MP patients either. That being said, some of my herx symptoms were probably ignored because I had gotten so used to their being present.
All signs of pain have been very short lived or taken care of by an occasional Ibuprofen and disregarded. My most enduring herx symptoms (24 yrs+) are the ones that have been with me the longest...insomnia, sleepiness, weight gain, and lack of energy. I complained to my former doctor for years about these issues, and was told...allergies make you sleepy...allergy medicine makes you sleepy... you're doing too much...you're not getting enough sleep (suggested 10-14 hrs)...you need more exercise...you're too stressed and on and on.
Pain in various areas of my body had started to present itself about five or six years before starting the MP. IMHO, the longer the symptom has been with me, the longer it takes to "cure it away".
I've noticed that some of us experience our most intense herx symptoms in later phases. Phase III has hit me harder than I thought it would. That is probably because I thought "cleaning up" meant getting rid of the few bits and pieces of disease symptoms. In reality, it has been the final annihilation of issues with energy, strength, sleep and brain fog...and, dare I say it, the beginning of weight loss.

Donna ,
Thank you for replying to my post as I was beginning to think that I was doing something wrong but could not figure out what it was It would be nice to think that I am killing bugs with as little herx as I have been experiencing although I had expected a much more dramatic herx
I do believe that my time will come for the severe herxing as I do believe that my problems are embedded deeply within my tissues; especially the muscle tissue where I am just starting to feel a little activity.
My most troublesome issues (other than going outside and becoming exposed to the light) is like what you experience as to the insomnia/sleepiness. It almost makes me wonder if the mycoplasma are noctournal (spelling??) whereby when they are awake and active they force us to become active as well? When you think about it......don't they have to sleep too? Or do I have that all wrong?
That is wonderful that you are so far along on MP and now reaping the rewards inspite of the difficult herxing you had to go thorough to get there. Congratulations to you You are an inspiration to so many of us who are so early on in the protocol
Best wishes with your continued success and great health!

Day 113 Benicar 40mg q6h Minocycline 100mg q48h
As it turns out my flat screen monitor was the culprit in keeping me from herxing the way I should have been
I placed a sheet of green transparent acetate over the screen and I am now herxing I am going to check and see if they have amber but the green does seem to be doing the trick
I started taking mino 100 mg on 5/1 The same day I had an awful attack of Raynauds. My fingertips and part way up the finger were blue but it was different from what I had in the past........
I wrapped the heating pad over them and actually started to burn myself because I did not feel the heat and it had no affect on warming them anyway which was kind of odd I actually felt nerve impulses further up the finger and hand and that was when I realized that it was not helping
I didn't think to do windmills as that is what I had always done in the past to get the blood flowing again to the fingertips.
Well, instead of just going to bed, I just woke up as I went to bed last night at 11:30 PM with an awful headache and I never get headaches as a rule so that was great I slept petty soundly until 5AM The headache started early last evening and I still had a touch of it when I woke.
While sleeping I also saw a couple more of those bird wing floaters and as I type this it is still going in a slight downhill direction.
I plan on entering Phase II probably in about 2 or so weeks as I have a dentist appt mid month and I will be making an appt with my doctor for blood work before beginning Phase II
IS IT ADVISABLE TO HAVE THE D-METABOLITES (both 25-D and 1,25 D) tested again?? I originally had the tests done in Sept 2005 I have not had any real debilitating herxing as yet so maybe my D's are still way up there, so therefore it would NOT be advisable at this point???
Best to all with gentle herxing
DianeC

Diane
see this FAQ and the links within for all the information:
What tests do I need to monitor my progress on the MP? says in part: At the beginning of Phase Two, Healthcare Providers should assess the level of 25-D. It is vital for effective immune system function that this prehormone be at a low therapeutic level of 12ng/ml or less. Where levels are still elevated you are encouraged to increase efforts to avoid ingested forms of Vitamin D. It is not necessary to assess the level of 1,25-D at this point because it is altered by MP medications and is expected to fluctuate rapidly.
all best, Barb ...

Hi Barb ,
Thank you for the links and the information on D test. I will have the 25D test done again
Well after my earlier post I went back to bed and just woke because the headache started to get so much worse I slept soundly but now I have to deal with this headache and my head feels fuzzy kind of like the brain fog again.
Since I have just started the mino 100mg q48 hour for the first dose on May 1, I am wondering if I should go back to the previous dose of 75 mg and maybe stay at q48h since I think that based on what I am feeling now that some significant herxing may be starting due to the computer screen now be covered properly?
So it appears that I am killing some bugs in the brain thus the neurological symtoms I just don't want to miss any bugs that is why the question regarding the dose and schedule?? Will either the 75mg or the 100mg get any missed bugs????
Best to all

The headache may also be from the changed light.. increasing the Benicar may help.. try that first, and then you can decrease the mino if you need to..
all best, Barb ...

Day 115 Benicar 40mg q6h Minocycline 100mg q48h
This is my 3rd dose of 100mg mino q48h I am doing some herxing but all is tolerable at this point. Yesterday the backs of my upper legs felt achy and I had that same squeezing pain in my left side and toward the upper back that I had when on the 25mg and 50mg mino (It was worse when I was on the lower doses)
Last night I took a long hot shower and thought it would reduce me to mush and that I would sleep the whole night through Well it didn't and I was back up 2 hours later
I am really concerned about outside light coming inside? When I come down to the kitchen to start dinner, the door is open and light is coming in. If I put the dark Noirs on I am afraid I may cut my finger with the knife when preparing the salad and I am not able to see what is in the refrig as there is no light in there at all.
Does the indirect light that comes into the room the problem even if it is not falling directly on me? I think that I know the answer but I am trying to find a solution so that my husband does not have to suffer when he enjoys the fresh air coming in I have to figure something out??? I find myself changing glassess everytime I enter the kitchen but then what about my skin being covered especially with the warmer months ahead.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to stay fully clothed especially in the warmer months and not be so very uncomfortable?? I checked the Coolibar Catalog and wondering if there are any other catalogs similar to that one??
We will be putting the air conditioners in soon so I guess I will have to prepare as if going outdoors...completely covered...K-Cream and all.
Right now as I write this I am getting some upper arm soreness.....I took the mino about 3 hours ago so the herxing does not wait so long as it did in the beginning.
Best wishes to all

Day 122 Benicar 40mg q6h Minocycline 100mg q48h
Please link my Phase I progress reports to the PHASE II Forum as I am just about ready to start and have some questions
My doctor appt for blood work to be performed before starting Phase II is next week
My progress so far is that I have taken 6 doses of 100mg minocycline q48h with very little intolerable herxing with the exception of the occasional acute killer foot cramps on either foot
Also feel overall more tired and once alseep could sleep indefinitely. My stomach also feels bloated but alot of that could be from the dish of oatmeal and banana I have right before I go to sleep very early every morning as that is my sleeping pill. Without a full stomach I cannot go to sleep so I hope at some point that will change
Looking forward to PHASE II
Best to all

Thanks Diane
Please start a new topic in the Phase two and three forum for your progress report..
Before starting Phase Two, we do encourage members to begin a progress report in the Phase Two forum to discuss recommendations re their new meds and dosing.
all best, Barb ...
