Oct. 10 will mark my one year MP anniversary. I spent three months in Ph 1, seven months in mod. Ph 2, and two months (so far) in Ph 2. The seven months in mod. Ph 2 may appear to be overkill, but looking back I'm glad I took my time and really worked through that phase.

Many of my original symptoms were neurological and included severe brain fog, short-term memory deficits, some slurring of speech. The mod. Ph 2 antibiotics were reported to address these more effectively. I also had some heart symptoms pre-MP -- missed beats, rapid pulse, palpitations, and high bp spikes, which helped convince me to go the modified route.

When I compare my progress to many of those who started the MP about the same time, but went straight to regular Ph 2 after Ph 1, I seem to be less sensitive to light and sun now. I vaguely remember reading something about mod. Ph 2 addressing eye inflammation better so maybe that is the reason. Pre-MP, I experienced eye problems which included dry eye and trouble focusing.

So, how am I today? Much, much better. Brain fog and episodes of slurred speech are gone except for rare events during herxing. My short-term memory has improved greatly, but still is not what I consider my "normal." All of these things were much improved within 2 months on mod. Ph 2. The heart symptoms disappeared early in Ph 1 except for an occasional palpitation during herxing. My eyes are better and the problems that remain are probably attributable to normal aging. I have more endurance and am able to exercise regularly once again. It's funny (and NICE) that I really have to stop and think about what my symptoms were before starting the MP. Oh yeah, panic attacks, anxiety...GONE after less than 3 months on the MP.

I continued to work during the entire MP with the exception of the first month, which I took off to adjust to Benicar. I was lucky to have an understanding boss who allowed me to stay inside during the first 6 months of the protocol as I was extremely light sensitive during that time. Sun and light sensitivity has steadily lessened since then and I am now able to spend up to 6 hours/day outside, wearing Noirs and a head/face scarf made of sun-protection fabric. I am also using the new Coppertone Spectra sunscreen that J.C. Waterhouse mentioned instead of K cream and it seems to be working well. When I am off work, I try to stay inside as much as possible. I don't wear Noirs inside anymore, even while working on the computer.

Prior to the MP, I spent over a year pulsing minocycline in various ways. The herxes were strong and very frightening. Although I did see improvements initially, I eventually plateaued, and then began heading downhill. Herxing for me has been much gentler on the MP.

My mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's and every one of my five living siblings display various Th1 symptoms. My younger sister died a year ago at the age of 43 after suffering a lifetime of health problems. She received various diagnoses including depression, arthritis, bipolar disorder, degenerative disk disorder, etc. The tox screen completed at death was unremarkable except for extremely high levels of ammonia in her blood. I remember reading somewhere on this site that ammonia is a by-product of the nitric acid generated by the bacteria. Her death was attributed to interactions between the prescription meds she had been taking. Unfortunately, no autopsy was performed. I believe this treatment has saved my life, and I am extremely grateful for the hard work of Dr. Marshall and the rest of the board staff.

During an eye exam Dec. 20, the opthamalogist stated that he found absolutely no sign of cataracts.  When asked if cataracts can be reversed, he responded with an unequivocable "no".  Interesting because at my last exam 2 years ago (just as I began the MP) another doctor noted the start of cataracts, rating them 1 on a scale of 1 to 10.
