Is a good point, however we should remember that UGESA is not doing own research and thus, can not apply for Research Funds from the German Goverment.

The idea of UGESA is (among others, like supporting MP Patients) to collect Funds and able to finance independent research as it is state in the founders acta.

Even here we are on a very early phase still dealing with legal matters and with our own infrastructure. We will need in deed some patience (;-)

It is thinkable to be able to influence research centers that could potentially apply for government funds. In deed we have been already in contact with research centers in Heidelberg on MS.

As of the Vitamin D conference in April, to my understanding it seems to be quite late this year, but would be a good contact for future conferences.

In any case, proposals are always welcome!

Kind regards,

Alex

It would be great if Professor Marshall could come to this in Berlin on April 9th. I'd be interested in hearing if he decides to do so (or does he have to be "invited"?). It's a pity that this conference clashes exactly with the annual conference of the  Deutsche Borreliose-Gesellschaft, the German organization of those dealing with lyme professoinally (doctors, scientists....) to which I would normally be going and to which I hope Professor Marshall will soon be invited. I'm working on it.

As a practising doctor in Berlin with mp patients I would, of course, stay in Berlin to support Professor Marshall in my role as practitioner if he came. Please let me know!

Elke,
Generally it is better that I be 'invited' to meetings which are as adversarial as this appears it might become. I will be chairing a session on Metagenomics at the DNA-DAY conference in China at the end of April, and a session on Drug Discovery in MS at the Neuro-Talk conference in China during May. Then again, chairing another session at the Autoimmunity Congress in Singapore in November, where I will also be speaking in the Plenary session (on Vitamin D in disease)...

It is much harder to take part in a discussion "from the floor." Better if at least I be included as "balance" on a panel, or something...

With the papers we have published, and our participation in the Vit D and MS summit, the organizers should be keen to add balance to their program. If they are not, it is not likely to be good use of my time. March/April/May are already busy. And I will also be traveling to China in just 6 weeks time so I need to add February to that list :)

However, if invited, I would be happy to attend, even at short notice :) It is so important to get the word out...

..Trevor..

I have already phrased a letter to the organization advising them of Dr. Marshall and his work, suggesting he gets invited as speaker too.

We were going suggest it really wouldn't be worth his while because, to put it mildly it would be like Daniel and Lion's Den because this event is run by people pushing vitamin D and the poor lions in the story were only the tools to threaten Daniel.

We'd been checking it out and it is in no way academic or intellectual but a promotion exercise in the need for/sale of vitamin D. Fighting windmills is mild in comparison. They are renting the university lecture theatre in the vacation, or so it would seem.

The name of the organizors is interestingly similar to that of a pharma-concern. There's no point in being sued for insinuation, but it is surprising.

I don't mind playing Daniel, as long as the big lions are present.

Veith, Hollick, Grant and Hollis are certainly the biggest of the lions... :)
