OK folks, we will run the conference on June 17/18. Its OK to book your flights, as long as you have not received an email saying you will not be welcome If you need to fly in a day early or leave a day late, either because of sickness (time to recover) or because you can get cheaper flights away from the weekend itself, I think I can negotiate to extend the incentive ($99, two occupancy) room rate with the Hotel.
There will be plenty of chairs and foyer space for folks to meet up Friday afternoon and evening for informal gatherings.
At this point I can't promise you whether the conference will be in the Hilton or the Radisson, so hold your hotel room reservations until we sign the contracts.
..Trevor..

Suddenly it hits you that the lovely family feeling we have on the board, that shrinks the world, is not realistic when it comes to conferences... can't afford to travel...

Sigh, can't sqeeze it from the budget. My heart will be with you all.
For those of us unable to make it to the Conference, let's consider making a donation to the Foundation as best we can to help the Cause.
'til later,
Jillian

I went ahead and booked my flights and I was able to find non-stops coming and going on American Airlines for a $300 round trip. I also checked with the Hilton to see if they honored the discount I get through work, which they did. So, I'm all booked up. I'm really looking foward to meeting everyone.

Southwest flies from Detroit to LAX, and there are still a few $180 each-way discount seats selling, and one flight with a $150 discount. Detroit is not as cheap as some hubs, but that will serve as a guide for your budget.
Thank you much trevor,
I'm going to look into flying out of Flint's Bishop International airport too. ( much closer...easy to get in/out)This is all unfamiliar to me, I don't fly often.I'm workin on it

PLEASE DON"T BOOK YOUR HOTEL ROOMS UNTIL WE GET THE CONFERENCE BOOKING SET UP.
THE AUTOIMMUNITY RESEARCH FOUNDATION HAS GUARANTEED THAT WE WILL OCCUPY A MINIMUM NUMBER OF ROOMS, AND WE WILL HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET IF THOSE ARE NOT FILLED.
THERE ARE PLENTY OF ROOMS AVAILABLE, 1100 AT THE HOTEL, SO THE FLIGHTS ARE YOUR MAIN CONCERN RIGHT NOW. CONCENTRATE ON SECURING A GOOD RATE FOR FLIGHTS, THE HOTEL ROOMS WILL STILL BE AVAILABLE IN A WEEK OR TWO

Hi Folks,
For those of you whether or not you're able to attend the conference, but wanted to make some sort of contribution, since Dr Phil has a message board containing folks with sarcoidoisis and other chronic illnesses AND they will be local to the conference, I think it would be great to try to get some media coverage to this event.
Here's a link to Dr Phil's site, to email the show. It might help to mention the topic, How I Fought My Illness from their message boards in the body of the email.

There's further discussion on this in the General Discussion forum, My Reply to Sarcoidosis Posting on Dr Phil

Another good idea would be to get those of you members in the LA area to group together one day and try to speak with the producers or Dr. Phil. I noticed several members in the Los Angeles, California area. Maybe someone could contact all of them and get something going. I wish there were a way to get members to contact other members as there is almost 3000 on this site. Imagine what kind of statement that would make.
How many active MP patients do we have?

You may wish to make contact with others in your area by private message.

LeAnne,
I wonder which celebrities or news shows would be interested in the conference since there are quite a few involved in AIDS and they would be local to the area.
One member asked me if Elizabeth Taylor would be making an appearance.

Reenie,
Well, at least the LA Airport Hilton would provide a more auspicious venue for such an appearance than the Chicago Holiday Inn

Barb,
I will work on contacting Ga. Members. Does anyone know how many members are currently being treated on the protocol?
Reenie,
I think there are several talk show host in LA, infact, I read somewhere that there is a radio talk show host in LA. Maybe some of the LA. protocol members could contact them.
Dr. Marshall,
Please push for the Hilton. It looks sooo beautiful.

I talked to one of our MP members to the LA area. She is a writer, and said she would try to get some media coverage, by announcing the presence of Dr. Alan Cantwell to the LA area and will be speaking at this conference. I wonder how hard it is to get an announcement like that in the paper, tv. or over the radio. It may spark some interests. Great idea from our member "GettingBetter"

If I recall from a leader hosting a local Phoenix conference for FMS, I believe she was able to get her pic in the AZ Paper and get a blurb and an announcement, free of charge, about the conference, simply by contacting the media.
I would think someone from ARF might be able to contact one of the large papers in LA for that. I think it would need to be "someone in charge" rather than a member of the site.

I just purchase our airline tickets. So, make that two more attending the conference. We will be arriving a day early and leaving the day after the conference. What kinda of things are there to do in LA that would be suitable for an MP patient?

Since I've just begun to look into the Marshall Protocol and just learned of the conference, I intend to be there. I picked up the DVD's from the Chicago Conference and what an eye opener.
Lucky for me I live in Northern California so is easy for me.

I just booked a flight (on a frequent flyer) for me. I really want my husband to go....I am having a bit of trouble thinking of going to the airport all and flying all the way by myself dressed up from head to toe without my support system! Funny, I traveled everywhere prior to this all by myself!! I even traveled to Guatemala to live for 3 months to adopt our third child by myself. Why am I being like that? (no need to answer ).
There is a non stop (from Houston to LAX) arriving at 10 am or 2:30pm at LAX....I am booked at 10am, what time is check in??? maybe I should change it to the 2:30pm? any advice there? Wanted to get there for networking ....I can leave Sun at 2:45pm or 6:40pm, I chose 2:45, since I read that we will be done at 1pm.
Is there anyone (female) that needs a roommate? We will decide this week if my husband and maybe my kids will go. Just seeing if anyone wants to share a room? Is it $99 pp or per room? Will the rooms be totally MP friendly?
I am looking forward to this!

Leesa,
I'm thrilled to know you will be coming. I will bring greetings from your Menomonie friends.
I suspect that most folks won't arrive until Friday afternoon and that hotel checkin is the usual 3pm. We have decided to have focus group discussions for members on Sunday afternoon so you might want to stay longer.
Reenie is looking for a roommate so you might PM her. This is a great way to have fun getting to know other MPers.
Anxiety in general can be exacerbated by the MP so that may be the source of your newfound fear of traveling alone. You will find many helpful hints to allay your fears in What precautions do I need to take when I am going out or when traveling away?
Yes, the hotel rooms are $99 a night. They should have heavy drapes...most hotel rooms do. You could bring some duct tape to secure the edges and some low watt light bulbs to replace higher ones that are accessible. The conference rooms are centally located so they are windowless. The lighting there will be turned down to 30 lux as it was in Chicago.
Best,
