There has just been some data on the canine version of the Cathelicidin anti-microbial peptides made available:

"Canine cathelicidin (K9CATH): Gene cloning, expression, and biochemical activity of a novel pro-myeloid antimicrobial peptide"
http://tinyurl.com/yuuwen PMID: 17462733

This joins the earlier paper:

"Molecular cloning and characterization of three beta-defensins from canine testes"
http://tinyurl.com/yp6aox  PMID: 15845463

The data here cannot be directly applied to Homo sapiens, but does give a pretty good indication of what these peptides can do...

What I found surprising was the wide anti-microbial spectrum, and especially the activity of the beta-Defensins against Candida...
